Sweeping in the morning:

With the break of dusk, The Maldivian women, finds their iloshifathi (a hand broom -made from soft coconut spines) and heads to the road to sweep. They sweep to clean all the places surrounding the home without leaving a fallen leaf on the road or in the premises. This shows the cleanliness of the Maldivian people. Maldivian women practice this sweeping habit every day in the morning and in the evening. With modern day, the “iloshifathi” has been modified in a way that they can sweep while standing instead of bending, but one thing has not changed with the change in sands of time, and that is the habit of Maldivian women. Waking up early, taking out their “iloshifathi”and heading out to clean the roads. Sources: visit maldives

Where to stay in Maldives?

📸yaeesh  ( beautiful Noonu Lhohi ) Local Islands .  Resort Island   Board  . There are about 1200 islands in the Maldives, most of them  uninhabited (uninhabited islands + rapids). Local islands are inhabited, which are islands where  Maldivians actually live and run their homes and family businesses. Local provinces are less popular with foreign tourists than resort islands because they have only recently developed tourism infrastructure. But over the years these islands have become popular and loved by many travelers from all over the world. Here you can see how the locals live, learn a little about the daily routine and enjoy some of the cheapest prices  in the Maldives for diving, food and lodging. Don't expect regular business hours of  local stores, luxuries or services. And don't expect alcohol. Everything is simple but cozy. This place i...

Tourists staying with local families

📷Lhohi  The Maldives is nothing new to vacationers  from near to  far. With growth within the retirement agencies of the  inhabited islands, the relationship between the Maldives and transportation from  around the world has turned into a  much less formal relationship, one mile long. This is again backed by a homestay tourism company scheduled to start in 2022. While Maldivian locals are happy to receive tourists in their islands and businesses, there has also been friction at times due to differing cultures and lifestyle. Much like any other country even in the West, in Maldives wearing bathing suits and public displays of affection and indecent behaviours among locals and destinations outside of the tourist hotels and resorts are frowned upon. Most tourists are well aware of these rules and are happy to oblige out of respect for the locals and their way of life. But some instances of public drunkenness and improper clothing in local islands has made its...

Gaafaru

#Gaafaru island in Kaafu atoll is a small fishing community of pious and good people. Gaafaru means literally CORAL REEF.  Sailing boats in olden times spend sometime before leaving or just after travelling the Kaashidhoo Kandu (Channel) to supply freshwater and rest. The island lay in a separate natural atoll between North Male atoll and Kaashidhoo atoll.   I'm fascinated by the old town area with narrow sandy foot paths and laid with low roof houses belonging to ordinary people of this island. Old towns have separate houses and Badhige (kitchen) with public walkways in-between.           Sources: & 📸 Moosa Zameer hassan

Away from city life

To experience Maldives Island Life you need to take an excursion to an inhabited Maldives Island. This is the way to learn and gain experience about the life of the ordinary Maldivian. These are completely different to your holiday resort islands. Many resorts offer  you the chance to take a trip to one of these inhabited islands and I would recommend this. If you are near to   Male , the capital city, then take a trip there to experience Maldives Island life in a bust capital city. The Maldives is a  Muslin nation , and the inhabited islands of the locals have different laws to those of your resort. Please respect these when you take a trip out. Some inhabited Maldives islands are more modern than others, with the walls of the house’s painted in bright colours, some Maldives islands have harbour areas where you can watch the boats come in and out   There are also many fishing villages with trees giving the shade for the day, along with the trad...
