. There are about 1200 islands in the Maldives, most of them  uninhabited (uninhabited islands + rapids). Local islands are inhabited, which are islands where  Maldivians actually live and run their homes and family businesses. Local provinces are less popular with foreign tourists than resort islands because they have only recently developed tourism infrastructure. But over the years these islands have become popular and loved by many travelers from all over the world. Here you can see how the locals live, learn a little about the daily routine and enjoy some of the cheapest prices  in the Maldives for diving, food and lodging. Don't expect regular business hours of  local stores, luxuries or services. And don't expect alcohol. Everything is simple but cozy. This place is still Maldives and to be honest, it is real. The

resort islands are  fully occupied by  resorts. Your hotel + nature is what you get. The only locals who live here are the hotel staff. The resort island is relatively small and has all kinds of services and amenities a tourist might need, including  small boutiques and health workers. There are luxury island resorts, mid-range and relatively inexpensive options. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend on  vacation.

For diving lovers, there is also an opportunity to book a liveaboard experience on one of the comfortable yachts. If you are not afraid of the seasickness, then why not, right?
