With the break of dusk, The Maldivian women, finds their iloshifathi (a hand broom -made from soft coconut spines) and heads to the road to sweep. They sweep to clean all the places surrounding the home without leaving a fallen leaf on the road or in the premises. This shows the cleanliness of the Maldivian people. Maldivian women practice this sweeping habit every day in the morning and in the evening.
With modern day, the “iloshifathi” has been modified in a way that they can sweep while standing instead of bending, but one thing has not changed with the change in sands of time, and that is the habit of Maldivian women. Waking up early, taking out their “iloshifathi”and heading out to clean the roads.
