Maldives Named World’s Leading Destination 2025 for Sixth Consecutive Year

The Maldives has once again reinforced its position as a global tourism leader after being crowned World’s Leading Destination 2025 for the sixth consecutive year, along with securing the title of World’s Leading Green Destination 2025 for the second year in a row at the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony held at Exhibition World Bahrain.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards are widely recognised as the highest honour within the global travel and tourism industry. The awards celebrate excellence across all sectors of the industry and are determined by votes from travel professionals and the general public worldwide.

Winning the World’s Leading Destination title for six consecutive years marks a historic achievement for the Maldives, reflecting its consistent delivery of exceptional visitor experiences, strong global brand presence, and sustained international appeal. Meanwhile, the continued recognition as World’s Leading Green Destination highlights the nation’s unwavering commitment to environmental preservation, sustainable tourism development, and the protection of its fragile marine ecosystems.

The accolades come during a year of remarkable growth for Maldivian tourism. Visitor arrivals surpassed the two-million mark earlier than ever before, placing the destination firmly on track to reach the national target of 2.3 million arrivals by the end of 2025. This strong performance has been driven by strategic global marketing campaigns, impactful partnerships, expanded trade engagement, and enhanced destination visibility across key international markets.

Throughout 2025, Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) implemented a wide range of coordinated global initiatives that further strengthened the country’s leadership position. These efforts included ambassador programmes, large-scale digital marketing campaigns, international roadshows, co-branding partnerships, and the launch of the “Ocean Nation 2026”destination theme. The Maldives also amplified its participation at global travel trade fairs and executed collaborative promotions across major markets in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America.

In addition to the two global titles, the Maldives secured three regional honours at this year’s World Travel Awards:

  • Indian Ocean’s Best MICE Destination 2025 – Maldives

  • Indian Ocean’s Best Incentive Destination 2025 – Malé

  • Indian Ocean’s Best Tourism Authority Website 2025 – VisitMaldives.com

These regional achievements underscore the Maldives’ expanding tourism portfolio, encompassing MICE travel, incentive tourism, urban leisure development, and enhanced digital visitor engagement.
