The Islamic Center (formally named Masjid-al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam) is a building milestone in Male'. Opened on 11 November 1984, the mosque is the biggest in the Maldives conceding more than 5000 individuals.
Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Azam otherwise called Al-Sultan Ghazi Muhammad Bodu Thakurufaanu ruled over the Maldives from 1573 to 1585 AD. He is a standout amongst the most observed Maldivian legends who spared Maldives from the Portuguese champions who ruled over the Maldives.
Situated close to the fundamental wharf of Male' the three story Islamic Center houses a primary petition to God lobby, library, classrooms, workplaces and a meeting corridor. The superb brilliant arch of the mosque is clear on the horizon of Male'. Its primary request to God lobby shows lovely woodcarvings and Arabic calligraphy by Maldivian specialists. The building symbolizes the significance of Islamic religion.
