The goal of attracting two million visitors, set for this year, was officially reached today. To celebrate this achievement, a special event took place at Velana International Airport, where the milestone visitor was greeted with great enthusiasm.
The two millionth tourist, Astrid Dirnegger from Austria, arrived in the Maldives accompanied by her husband and two children. As part of the festivities, she was presented with a selection of souvenirs and a holiday package from SAii Lagoon Resort, allowing her family to enjoy the renowned luxury and hospitality that the Maldives is famous for.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives currently accommodates an average of over 6,000 tourists each day, demonstrating its enduring appeal to travelers from around the globe.
This year, China has emerged as the leading source of visitors, with notable contributions from Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, India, the United States, France, Spain, and Switzerland.
This achievement reinforces the Maldives' reputation as a premier destination for international tourism, celebrated for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and exceptional resorts. As the nation commemorates this historic milestone, the tourism industry anticipates continued growth and prosperity in the years ahead.
